Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Adam Levine are reuniting on The Voice for the first time since Season 16. The trio are set to star as coaches for Season 29 of the NBC show, which will launch in the spring.

This comes as Michael Bublé, Snoop Dogg, Niall Horan and Reba McEntire have been set as coaches for Season 28, which comes out in the fall.

Both seasons are being shot at the same time, hence the early announcement for coaches on Season 29 ahead of Season 28 debuting.

The network also revealed that the show will include various format revamps for Season 29, which is being dubbed The Voice: Battle of Champions.

NBC said Season 29 will be “infused with fast-paced, competitive elements” inspired by NBC Sports, which has Super Bowl LX, the Milan Cortina Olympic Winter Games and the NBA All-Star Game on the docket in February.

There will be four rounds with the coaches competing against each other in a “Triple Turn Competition” – essentially vying for the most three-chair turns – with the winner gaining a special advantage in the next round.  The coach with the most three-chair turns automatically earns a “Super Steal” for the battles rounds, which can only be used once and trumps any other coach’s attempt to steal, guaranteeing a win.

In the knockouts, each coach brings back two fan-favorite artists from their teams in previous seasons to compete in an “In-Season All-Star Competition” and the coach with the most sing-off wins is guaranteed a second finalist in the finale. OG Voice coach CeeLo Green will determine the winner.

The semifinal and finale week will kick off with a Top 9 semifinal and culminate in a Top 4 finale, and for the first time a new voting block comprised of super fans and past Voice artists will be involved. Coaches will also enter the competition with 10 artists per team.

The Voice is produced by MGM Television, Warner Bros Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon, and ITV Studios’ The Voice USA, Inc. The series was created by John de Mol, who serves as an executive producer along with Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Amanda Zucker, Kyra Thompson, Adam H. Sher and Barry Poznick.

Clarkson will film The Voice and The Kelly Clarkson Show, which is heading into Season 7, concurrently. She most recently appeared as a coach in Season 23, having previously featured between Season 14 and Season 21.

Levine was on the show from the start and coached through to Season 16 and returned in Season 27. Legend has been on the show intermittently between Season 16 and Season 22 and returning for Seasons 24, 25 and 27.
