Adderall, Ritalin shortages reported by pharmaceutical companies

  • June 5, 2026

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – Some Upstate residents are struggling to find a pharmacy carrying their prescription medication.

Multiple people have reached out to FOX Carolina News about being unable to obtain Adderall, Ritalin or their generic forms.

Is there an Adderall shortage?

According to the FDA, multiple pharmaceutical companies are reporting limited or no availability for some or all doses, including Alvogen, Aurobindo, Epic Pharma, Granules Pharmaceuticals, Lannett Company, Oryza Pharmaceuticals, Sandoz Inc., SpecGx LLC and Teva Pharmaceuticals.

Different companies cite different reasons for the drug shortage, ranging from increased demand to a shortage of an active ingredient.

Alvogen reports that it expects to recover from the shortage in 5-10 days.

Lannett Company and Sandoz Inc. anticipate recovery from the shortage by the end of June.

Aurobindo Pharma and Granules Pharmaceuticals say their estimated availability is October 2026.

Oryza Pharmaceuticals estimates availability in January 2027.

Is there a Ritalin shortage?

The FDA currently reporting shortages of methylphenidate, the generic name for ADHD drugs including Ritalin and Concerta.

Lannett Company estimates recovery later this month.

Trigen Laboratories says its limited availability is being allocated to contracted customers, and the company is seeing increased demand for the drug.

What should I do if I can’t get my prescription?

Check with multiple stores or pharmacies to see if they have your medication in stock.

If they don’t, contact your health care provider to ask if there is an alternative medication or treatment that can help until the shortage is resolved.
