The teenager who ran onto the court and disrupted Game 1 of the NBA Finals has identified himself as a Dallas-area resident.
Yousif Alsahli, 16, told the San Antonio Express-News he lives in Dallas and is a typical teenager who goes to “a regular school,” plays soccer and works at a restaurant. According to public records, his family owns a home in Murphy, and he is listed on a roster for the Wylie High School soccer team.
Alsahli’s actions on Wednesday night were far from typical. When he dashed onto the court during the fourth quarter, he was wearing a white T-shirt with “$Attention” written in black letters on the front. As security personnel escorted him off the court, after he attempted to take a video with his phone while standing next to San Antonio Spurs’ center Victor Wembanyama, he could be heard shouting “Wemby!” and “Attention!”
The NBA banned Alsahli from its arenas for life on Thursday.
“The individual who entered the court area during Game 1 of The Finals was arrested and will be banned for life from all NBA arenas,” an NBA spokesman said in a message sent to The Associated Press and other outlets. “A second individual will also receive a lifetime ban for his role in the incident.”
Investigators are looking into whether Alsahli’s stunt was intended to draw attention to a cryptocurrency, the Express-News reported, and more specifically, the meme coin, “$Attention.”
A field-rushing stunt similar to the one Alsahli pulled occurred at the 2026 CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney. A man wearing a white T-shirt with “$Attention” written in black letters on the front climbed over the ropes and began circling the green at hole No. 6, where Dallas native and world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was walking towards his ball. The man was also yelling “Attention!” and gesturing with his shirt. He was detained by security personnel as Scheffler attempted his putt.
Alsahli did not respond to follow-up questions from the Express-News about his “$Attention” T-shirt or why he shouted the word as he was being detained by security personnel.
“All I did was really run to the court,” Alsahli told the Express-News. “I didn’t touch anyone. I know the game was going on, but I didn’t disturb it too much.”
He was issued citations for criminal trespass and disrupting a meeting or procession, both Class B misdemeanors, according to the Express-News.
When the Express-News asked how his parents reacted to the incident, Alsahli said, “They pretty much said I’m stupid, for real.”
“I think it was kind of stupid,” he told the newspaper. “But at least I’m famous right now, so it’s fine.”
