San Diego police arrested a suspected sexual predator during San Diego Pride over the weekend, the department said Tuesday.

The man, who was not publicly identified, was suspected of targeting the LGBTQ+ community, San Diego police said in a post on Facebook.

Officers, who were conducting safety enforcement at Balboa Park for the annual event, said they spotted a man they believed matched the description of a suspect involved in multiple sexual assaults of men in the Hillcrest area.

After an interview with SDPD’s Sex Crimes Unit, the man was arrested and booked into custody on charges of kidnapping with intent to commit rape, sodomy of an intoxicated victim and sodomy by force.

SDPD did not say when or where exactly the arrest occurred.

The department did not provide details about the incidents the man was suspected of being involved in, and did not say whether any charges stemmed from crimes that occurred during the event.

“We are grateful to our teams for locating and arresting this predator before another community member could be harmed,” SDPD said in the post.

San Diego’s annual Pride Festival attracts hundreds of thousands of guests annually.
