PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Two men were hurt, one critically, after police say a planned sale turned violent in a west Phoenix neighborhood Friday night.
Around 10 p.m., first responders were called to a shooting in the area of 79th Avenue and Hess Avenue, south of Buckeye Road.
Phoenix police said officers and fire crews arrived and found two men. One of them, a 20-year-old man, had been shot and was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said the two men had arranged to meet with several people to sell them items. During the sale, police said the suspects robbed them and opened fire.
One of the victims, who was armed, returned fire before the suspects fled the area, according to police.
While officers were still at the scene, police received a second call reporting that another man had been taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound from the same area. He is expected to be OK.
Police said that the man reported hearing the shooting before being struck by gunfire.
The investigation is ongoing.
