It’s no surprise to anyone that Daniel Radcliffe‘s most defining role is that of the titular hero in the Harry Potter series. However, after the franchise was over, Radcliffe chose many exciting projects to highlight his acting talent.
One of them was 2022’s The Lost City, which featured a very different role: a villain. The adventure comedy film starred Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum as the protagonists, and was an unexpected success. Three years after its release, The Lost City is set to delight audiences further on streaming, as it’s heading to Hulu on Aug. 10.

The highly underrated fantasy horror was a major critical and commercial disappointment.
The Lost City followed a romance novelist, Bullock’s Loretta Sage, whose latest book leads a billionaire, Radcliffe’s Abigail Fairfax, to kidnap her in trying to discover a long-lost treasure. However, when she gets kidnapped, her handsome cover model Alan (Channing Tatum) comes to rescue her, trying to prove that he’s a hero in real life, too.
The adventure rom-com comes from Aaron and Adam Nee, who co-wrote the screenplay with Oren Uziel and Dana Fox, based on a story by Seth Gordon. The film also featured Brad Pitt, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Oscar Nunez, and Bowen Yang. The Lost City was a pleasantly surprising hit. Bullock is one of the most beloved rom-com queens, and The Lost City proved that. The adventure rom-com boasts a Certified Fresh 79% approval score from the critics, with a similar 83% rating from the audience on the Popcornmeter.
The movie was also a box office hit. With a generous budget of $74 million, the movie grossed $191.5 million worldwide (via The Numbers). It was enough to cover its investments and make a profit. However, although the ending teased that the film could receive a sequel, that was never brought up as the cast members moved on to other projects.

The adventure action movie didn’t impress the critics, but it was a major hit with the audience.
The adventure film followed a plot that had been explored before, but it featured several romantic tropes with some new spins. Bullock’s character is a powerful, smart, and resourceful one, while Tatum’s character takes a more awkward, less typical approach. In a twist on the cliche, he’s often in distress and is usually saved by Bullock’s character on several occasions.
What’s Next for Daniel Radcliffe?
Although the Harry Potter star has been choosing strange roles over the last decade and a half, he has also been extremely serious about theater work. That paid off because Radcliffe won his first Tony Award in 2024 for Merrily We Roll Along. However, he continues to balance his love of theater with movie roles.
The actor has been rumored to join the superhero world for a while, with people thinking he was going to be in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine (spoiler alert — he wasn’t) or that he will star in DC Studios’ live-action Clayface (he’s not), the actor continues to push boundaries and will be a part of the upcoming sitcom The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins. The sitcom is the perfect 30 Rock replacement, coming from the writers of the beloved show and starring Tracy Morgan.
The Lost City is heading to Hulu on Aug. 10.
