When Stacey King died, he left behind a wife and four children.
The former Chicago Bull player’s death was announced by the franchise on June 7. He was 59 years old. According to ABC7 Chicago, a head autopsy will determine the cause of death, amid reports that it was from a fall.
King played for the Bulls from 1989 to 1994, helping the team bring home three NBA championships, per ESPN and CBS News. After retiring from the sport in 1997, he became a Bulls broadcaster and rose to become one of the most recognizable voices in the franchise, per NBA.com.
Though the basketball star kept his family life private, he occasionally posted photos of his four sons — Erick, Garrett, Brandon and Mason — whom he welcomed during a previous relationship. However, he didn’t share images with his wife, Debi King, whom he married in 2017.
“Being a Dad is the best job in the world!” King captioned a June 2024 Instagram post for Father’s Day. “I’m truly blessed to have these wonderful young men as my sons! Erick, Garrett, Brandon and Mason thank you for allowing me so much joy being your dad.”

King got married in 2017
Though King didn’t reveal he had married, photographer Kenny Kim shared photos from the former professional athlete’s 2017 wedding to Debi.
“Had the privilege of capturing the wedding of Chicago’s beloved icon Mr. Stacey King and his beautiful wife Debi,” Kim wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “As most of you guys know, Stacey is a beloved Chicago icon, a terrific Bulls announcer and a three time world champion for the Chicago Bulls. More highlights coming your way!”
Kim posted more photographs on Facebook from the ceremony to celebrate the couple’s wedding anniversary in 2019. He jokingly wrote in the post that he was “still scratching” his head as to how King “pulled this off.”
He welcomed four sons

King was a proud dad of four sons — Erick, Garrett, Brandon and Mason — whom he welcomed during a previous relationship.
He shared in an October 2023 Instagram post that he had just started his NBA career in Chicago when he had his firstborn, Erick.
“Your mom and I were two young kids from Oklahoma and barely in our mid twenties when we found out we were going to have our first child,” King wrote. “I was so excited I was bouncing off the wall with excitement that I was going to be a daddy!!”
His children have remained away from the public eye, pursuing careers outside of sports. According to his LinkedIn profile, Garrett — who King said he was “so proud of” in a January 2022 Instagram post — has worked in customer service since graduating from high school.
Brandon’s Facebook page lists that he attended Western Illinois University and got married in 2012.
Brandon shares a birthday with King’s mom
In a March 2023 Facebook post celebrating Brandon’s 28th birthday, King revealed that the “coolest thing about this day” is that his son shares it with his mother, Lois King.
“My mom told me that you would be born on her birthday and I honestly thought she was crazy but my mom [knew] something special was about to happen to our family so God blessed us with you Muffin man!” the commentator wrote. “Continue to bring positive light and energy with your amazing personality and jovial spirit that lights up any room that you enter.”
King added that being Brandon’s father was the “best job” he ever had.
His family mourned his death in June 2026

Following King’s death in June 2026, a few of his family members opened up about the legacy he left behind off the court.
“While many of you knew him as a player for the Bulls or as a broadcaster on TV, to me he was so much more,” Brandon told CBS News at the time. “He was my hero, my role model, my biggest supporter, and my Big Twin.”
He also shared a throwback photo with his dad on Facebook, writing, “Long Live The King.”
