A Massachusetts judge chastised lawyers for disgraced former Massachusetts State Trooper Michael Proctor after the cop bailed on a planned deposition with Los Angeles attorney Alan Jackson connected to a wrongful death civil suit filed by his client Karen Read, who was acquitted for the 2022 murder of her boyfriend.
“A subpoena needs to mean something. A lawyer’s agreement needs to have some meaning. Lawyers need to communicate with their clients; clients need to keep their attorneys informed,” Plymouth Superior Court Judge Mark Gildea said in a Zoom court hearing.
Gildea ordered Proctor to appear for his deposition Tuesday, but Read’s lawyers said they couldn’t accommodate the new date. Instead, attorneys from both sides tentatively agreed on June 25 and July 14 for the deposition.
Proctor led the investigation into the January 2022 death of Read’s boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, but was fired after her first trial ended in a hung jury. Read and her attorneys filed a bombshell lawsuit against the State Police and the Canton, MA Police Department last week, prompting Proctor to ask for an emergency delay.
The civil lawsuit filed by Karen Read against Massachusetts State Police and Canton Police revealed a long history of disturbing strings of texts between former police officers Michael Proctor and his friend Sean Goode that included shocking racial slurs, sexist comments and other offensive material.
The 87-page suit against the Massachusetts State Police and Canton Police Department alleges “a culture of bias and corruption” at the hands of two witnesses against her: Proctor and Canton Police Sgt. Sean Goode, who resigned from the department last week. The suit calls Proctor and Goode “virulent bigots” with “unrepentant hatred for women, Black Americans, Asian Americans, Jews, Hispanics, Arabs and gay people.”
In one text about a multi-vehicle accident, Goode received a voicemail from Proctor that said: “Actually, take your time, I saw a [n—-r] was involved, so I wouldn’t rush if you’re working. Let them die,” Proctor allegedly wrote, the complaint stated. In another message, Read’s attorneys said Proctor wrote to Goode: “It should be ‘punch a [n—-r] day’ in canton today out of retribution. Any shine u see blast it in the face.”
Proctor allegedly wrote in another message, “America sucks …. Hitler was really on to something then the fucking US has to step in and ruin it.”
