THE HIGH POINT POLICE DEPARTMENT IS SHARING A PHOTO OF THIS CAR THEY BELIEVE IS INVOLVED IN A HIT AND RUN CRASH THAT KILLED A FIVE YEAR OLD CHILD. INVESTIGATORS HAVE NARROWED THE VEHICLE DESCRIPTION TO A GRAY FORD FOCUS, BELIEVED TO BE FROM MODEL YEARS 2015 TO 2018. ON FRIDAY, OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE INTERSECTION OF EAST RUSSELL AVENUE AND PINE STREET, WHERE THEY FOUND THE CHILD WHO HAD BEEN HIT BY A CAR. HE DIED AT THE HOSPITAL AND ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL HIGH POINT POLICE OR CRIME STOPPERS GREENSBORO. NEW POLICE CHIEF IS INVITING THE COMMUNITY TO SPEAK UP TONIGHT. CHIEF CAMERON IS CONTINUING HIS SERIES OF COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS AIMED AT HEARING CONCERNS AND STRENGTHENING TRUST WITH RESIDENTS. HE SAYS THE MEETINGS ARE AN IMPORTANT WAY TO STAY ENGAGED AND INVOLVED. TONIGHT’S EVENT STARTS AT 630 AT THE BARBER PARK EVENT CENTER AND HEADS UP FOR DRIVERS IN GREENSBORO. BOTH EASTBOUND LANES OF EAST CONE BOULEVARD BETWEEN NORTH CHURCH STREET AND YANCEYVILLE STREET ARE CLOSED BECAUSE OF A 12 INCH WATER MAIN BREAK. AROUND 100 CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN REPORTED WITHOUT WATER SERVICE, AND CITY CREWS ARE ON THE SCENE. THEY EXPECT REPAIRS TO BE FINISHED BY 7 P.M.
Officials are warning the community after a black bear sighting in Clemmons.Town officials said the sightings have occurred over the past couple of days, particularly around the Springfield Farm neighborhood. Officials said Wildlife Resources has been advised.If you spot a bear, leave it alone and remove any food attractions.Here are some tips from officials: Do not feed bears! Feeding bears rewards them for coming into residential areas. Bears feeding on unnatural food sources around your home may lose their fear of humans and will be more likely to approach people – a situation that rarely ends well for the bear and could have potential safety issues for humans as well!Remove or secure all potential food sources! Place garbage and recyclables out only during the day of collection.Do not leave pet foods out overnight. If pets are fed outside, remove any excess food after the animals have finished eating. Never store pet food on a porch or in an open garage where a bear can get to it.Clean outdoor grills. After you use an outdoor grill, clean it thoroughly and make sure that all grease and fat residues are removed.Compost piles attract bears. Although there usually isn’t much food available in a compost pile, the odor is enough to draw the interest of a curious bear. Avoid putting pasta or oils in a compost pile.Remove bird feeders and hummingbird feeders if bears are in area.Make bird feeder inaccessible to bears including bringing feeders inside at night.Alert neighbors of the bear and ensure that no one is intentionally or unintentionally feeding black bears. One person feeding bears can create a problem bear that may affect the entire neighborhood.There are no repellents that are registered for use on bears.
