BNSF Railway is celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a North Texas preview of a new commemorative locomotive.

The Fort Worth-based railroad will display the specially decorated Locomotive No. 250 at 10 a.m. June 16 at the Fort Worth Central Station, 1001 Jones St. in downtown Fort Worth. BNSF president and CEO Katie Farmer and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick will speak at the event, according to a company spokesperson.

Three BNSF locomotives — each painted red, white and blue with stars and stripes — honor the nation’s semiquincentennial birthday on July 4 as well as the impact of railroads on building America, officials said.

The locomotive numbers — 250, 1776 and 2026 — recognize the nation’s birthday, the year the Declaration of Independence was adopted by the original 13 colonies, and the current year, respectively.

“These locomotives pay tribute not only to our country’s heritage, but also to the men and women of Team BNSF who carry that legacy forward today,” Farmer previously said in a statement.

Other railroads are celebrating the nation’s birthday with U.S.-themed equipment.

On June 3, Union Pacific Railroad christened its flag-decorated locomotive honoring the 250th anniversary and President Donald Trump. Locomotive No. 4547, the third in a series honoring U.S. presidents, hauled solid rocket segments for NASA’s Artemis III lunar exploration program, the company announced.

Texas is celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday with museum exhibitions and special events, including a family program June 15-19 at the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg.

America250, a nonpartisan organization created by Congress to celebrate the birthday, recently launched its America’s Block Party mobile app that lets users find and host celebrations. That app can be downloaded to iOS and Android devices.
