A 30-year-old woman killed at an apartment complex in an unincorporated area bordering South Los Angeles was the owner of a restaurant, authorities and her family said Tuesday.
Joeline Thurton was discovered unresponsive in the 1200 block of West 87th Street, one block west of Vermont Avenue, in Westmont at 8:53 p.m. on Thursday, according to Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau Lt. Steven De Jong, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner and her family.
Thurton was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Family members told City News Service on Tuesday that Thurton had been fatally stabbed.
Thurton owned Pepper’s Jamaican-Belizean Cuisine in South Los Angeles. A news conference is planned for Wednesday at the restaurant where a sister of the victim will share pictures of the man she said killed her and to ask anyone with information on the killing to come forward.
Anyone with information about the killing was asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Callers who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org.
