Lindy Waters III keeps playing well and earning opportunities in the Association.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday morning that Waters, a former Oklahoma State guard, has agreed to a one-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs’ rebuild is nearing completion with Victor Wembanyama, perhaps a legitimate extraterrestrial being, entering his third year in the league.

Waters was traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Golden State Warriors last offseason. He played in 38 games with the Warriors and made nine starts, scoring 5.5 points a game and shooting 33% from 3.

Golden State then traded Waters to the Detroit Pistons as part of the Jimmy Butler deal. Playing alongside Cade Cunningham, Waters took part in 14 games with Detroit, where he averaged 3.4 points in 8.8 minutes a game while shooting 40% from 3.

Waters played 35 minutes in the Pistons regular season finale, where he scored 18 points, including a game-tying bucket to send the game to OT.

Waters took the long road to his NBA career. He played with the Enid Outlaws in The Basketball League (TBL) before earning a shot with the Oklahoma City Blue, the Thunder’s G League affiliate. Waters, out of Norman, then signed with the Thunder ahead of the 2021-22 season.

In three seasons with OKC, Waters took part in 104 games and averaged 5.3 points a game while shooting 38% from 3.

Waters was at Oklahoma State from 2016 to 2020, playing under Brad Underwood as a freshman before spending the next three seasons with Mike Boynton. His best season came as a junior where Waters averaged 12.2 points a game while shooting a ridiculous 45% on 154 3-point attempts.

Waters totaled 1,152 points as a Cowboy, good for 32nd on OSU’s career list after Bryce Thompson jumped him this past season. He hit 177 3s as a Cowboy, the 11th-most in program history.

Lindy becomes to second Cowboy in the past week to sign to play alongside some of the game’s megastars. Marcus Smart went from the Boston Celtics (to the Memphis Grizzlies to the Washington Wizards) to the Los Angeles Lakers and will play alongside LeBron James and Luka Doncic this upcoming season.
