ARLINGTON — After Arike Ogunbowale, the longest-tenured Dallas Wings player, walked into a transition 3-pointer midway through the second quarter, Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon immediately called a timeout.
Hammon had to stop the bleeding. The Wings had just hit three consecutive triples to create an 18-point advantage, but Dallas continued its 23-5 run to take a 56-28 second-quarter lead.
The WNBA champion Aces seem to have a handle on the rest of the league, except for when they face the Wings, who have seemingly been Las Vegas’ kryptonite.
For the second time in just as many games, the Wings (9-5) knocked off four-time league MVP A’ja Wilson and the Aces (10-4) 96-66 on Monday night at College Park Center.
The Wings hit double-digit 3-pointers for the sixth time this season, in large part due to the playmaking from center Jessica Shepard, who finished with 15 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists, one shy of her third triple-double this season. When the Wings defeated the Aces 95-87 on May 28, Shepard had a historic 22-point, 20-rebound, 10-assist night.
Wilson finished with 18 points and five rebounds.
The Wings mounted a 28-point lead in the second quarter and cruised from there. Las Vegas shot just 3 of 12 from inside the arc in the period, allowing Dallas to run in transition, creating advantages later in the shot clock.
Wings head coach Jose Fernandez allowed his guards to get downhill and create issues all game. Despite Bueckers’ off night, the other Wings backcourt starters, Azzi Fudd and Ogunbowale, combined for 41 points.
Fudd finished with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting while Ogunbowale posted 22 points, knocking down five 3-pointers
The Wings’ newest acquisition, Sug Sutton, made her Dallas debut Monday night. The former University of Texas guard was drafted 20th overall in the 2026 WNBA Expansion Draft by the Portland Fire, but was waived on May 21 and signed a rest-of-season contract with Dallas on Sunday. She scored four points in her debut.
