Arizona’s monsoon opens today and the expectation for this year is an atypical pattern with more rain expected toward the middle to the end of the season, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.
The season typically runs from June 15 to Sept. 30, but some patterns of the monsoon were seen early Monday in the Tucson area, according to meteorologist Matt Salerno at the National Weather Service.
“If we see high pressure building with a clockwise flow, and then see a switch in the pattern from a southerly flow to a southeasterly flow, that is when we could see monsoon conditions take place,” Salerno said.
