PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Firefighters battled a large commercial fire in west Phoenix, deploying several crews to put out the flames.
Around noon Tuesday, a Phoenix Fire Department engine crew noticed large plumes of smoke coming from the area of 35th Avenue and Indian School Road, according to Phoenix Fire Department Cpt. DJ Lee.
Firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from a scrapyard next to a commercial building.
The response escalated to a second-alarm, with additional crews and resources requested to battle the fire.

Crews quickly mobilized, raising several fire lines to pour water onto the structure from above, and prevented the fire from spreading despite heavy winds.
There were no reported injuries at this time.
Fire crews will remain on scene to put out hot spots.
