Authorities have publicly identified a 60-year-old man who died last week after being found unconscious in the ocean near the mouth of the San Dieguito River.
Robert Rothwell of San Diego was spotted floating off the coast of Del Mar on June 8, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office. After being pulled to shore, he was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 5:30 p.m. that day.
A ruling on the cause of Rothwell’s death remains on hold pending completion of postmortem examinations, the county agency reported.
