Boil water advisory issued in Western North Carolina

A water main break in McDowell County has prompted officials to issue a boil water notice.Early Friday morning, McDowell County Emergency Management said that a water main break left some Nebo Water customers without water pressure.The water main break occurred on U.S. 70 East near Rolands Chapel Road.Repair crews are actively working to restore water service as quickly and safely as possible.Later Friday morning, officials issued a boil water notice as a result of the water main break.The Division of Environmental Health advises that McDowell County water consumers BOIL ALL WATER used for human consumption (including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice and washing hands) to ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes.Keep up with what’s happening around our area by downloading the WYFF News 4 app on the App Store or Google Play.The water should be brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two (2) minutes.The advisory is in effect until further notice.Boiling water concentrates any levels of nitrates that may be present in the water.
