Glendale turned 116 June 18 with a celebration that showcased the major project of its past three years, the $94 million almost total renovation of its City Hall.
A month after the City Hall opened for business, the city held a ribbon cutting that started in the new City Council Chambers with several speeches, the unveiling of contets and footage from a time capsule buried in 1985 just outside the building and a look at the contets going into a time capsule buried Thursday.
After nearly an hour inside, council members present and past – including George Renner, the mayor in 1985 – Miss Glendale and Arizona Rattlers cheerleadersad mascot went outside for the ribbon cutting. Two F-35 jets from Luke Air Force Base flew over City Hall right before the ribbon cutting.
