JONES COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – A Kinston man has been charged in last week’s crash that killed a Jacksonville man and his wife.
Melvin Cobb, Jr. was charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle, driving while license revoked, and driving left of center.
Killed in the crash were Spencer and Nikki Latinette, both of Jacksonville. The man’s social media page says the two were married.
The Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 3:50 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 258 south of Highway 41.
Troopers say a pickup truck traveling north crossed the centerline and hit a car heading south.
The car ran off the road and overturned, throwing out one of the passengers.
Troopers say the 31-year-old Spencer Latinette was driving the car, while 33-year-old Nikki Latinette was a front seat passenger. Both died at the scene.
A backseat passenger, 26-year-old Megan Dorsinville, of Jacksonville was seriously injured.
