The World Cup may be the sporting event of the summer, but Wimbledon 2026 is here to serve up a high-fashion, star-studded alternative. The U.K. tennis tournament, which runs June 29-July 12 this year, is as famous for its A-list spectators as it is for its on-court action — and some of the most anticipated arrivals are members of the royal family.
For more than 100 years, the royal family has attended the tournament, and Kate, Princess of Wales, is the All England Club’s patron. A genuine tennis fan, she sits courtside in the Royal Box for multiple matches each summer and has begun a tradition of bringing her children along. Prince Louis, age 8, is the only Wales sibling who hasn’t yet had his “Wimbledon debut,” so perhaps this is the year.
Princess Diana arguably created the template for the modern “royal mom at Wimbledon” in the 1980s and 1990s, when she attended the tournament with a young William in tow. Glamorous as ever, Diana wore several looks to Centre Court that balanced royal polish and off-duty ease: breezy summer dresses, playful prints and crisp blazers that made watching tennis a fashion moment in itself.
These historical sartorial wins quite possibly influenced both Kate and Meghan Markle’s Wimbledon style choices. Their first joint appearance at Wimbledon came in 2018, two months after Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry. Attending in support of her close friend Serena Williams, Meghan’s girls-only outing with Kate became one of the most photographed sisters-in-law moments of the Sussex/Cambridge era. They attended together again the following year.
Below, take a look at some of the most memorable royal appearances at Wimbledon and what they wore.
