Derrick White is giving back to his alma mater in more ways than one.
The Parker native and current Celtics star guard was announced as the president of basketball strategy of Tad Boyle’s program Tuesday evening with White also set to donate $2 million to the program.
White will be formally introduced at a press conference Wednesday morning in Boulder. Several other former players will be in attendance for the announcement and a live taping of White’s podcast at the Touchdown Club in the Dal Ward Athletic Center.
The former Legend High School standout spent two seasons with the CU Buffaloes, sitting out the first, after transferring in from Colorado at Colorado Springs in 2015.
After averaging over 18 points, White was named first-team All-Pac-12 in his lone season on the court in Boulder, eventually getting drafted by the Spurs in the first round.
After 4 1/2 seasons in San Antonio, White was dealt to the Boston Celtics in 2022 where he has become a key starter and the Buffs’ most recognizable former player in the NBA, twice reaching the NBA Finals and winning one championship in 2024.
