1. Mayor says primary wins shifts ‘balance of power’

The day after his endorsed candidates scored a clean sweep on primary night, Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday sounded validated and vindicated.

Mamdani said the results show voters are embracing candidates focused on affordability and working-class issues. The wins could reshape New York’s political landscape and set up new tensions with Democratic leadership, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who backed some of the defeated incumbents.

2. Strangers save man in Knicks parade rescue

A dramatic rescue during the New York Knicks championship parade is drawing praise after bystanders and an off-duty EMT worked together to save a man who collapsed atop a subway entrance.

Simone Kelly recognized signs of a possible overdose and used Narcan provided by someone in the crowd before coordinating a safe rescue. Now honored by the city, Kelly hopes the incident highlights the importance of harm reduction, overdose awareness and community action.

3. Amtrak and MTA spar over participation in Penn Station redevelopment

A dispute is emerging over the future of Penn Station after redevelopment leader Andy Byford invited the MTA to formally join the project through a memorandum of agreement.
