PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Kids and families rolled up their sleeves to help some of the Valley’s most vulnerable residents, and that is Something Good.
The Be Kind People Project recently hosted a volunteer day at its Community Education Center in Phoenix. Volunteers with the National Charity League helped assemble hundreds of care packs for people experiencing homelessness.
The kits include essentials that are intended to help people cope with Arizona’s extreme summer heat, including cooling towels, socks, nail files, toothbrushes, shower wipes and other personal care items.
“It just shows that we are out there, especially as our org says, we are Be Kind,” Nathan Cleary with the Be Kind People Project said. “That’s not just in schools, that is to our community, to our peers, to everyone that we know, and it shows that we are always there and we’re always willing to support anyone, no matter their circumstance.”
Be Kind said the effort also helps teach young people the importance of kindness, service and giving back to their community.
In all, volunteers packed 1,000 care kits. The kits will be distributed through the Human Services Campus in downtown Phoenix, which is now called Keys to Change.
The care packs also double as a fanny pack, giving people living on the streets a way to safeguard their possessions.
