After three years in the making, a long-awaited Asian supermarket chain has finally confirmed its newest Central Texas store is “coming soon.” H Mart recently announced on social media that it will be opening its second location in Austin.

The grocer teased its followers to “get ready for all your favorite Asian groceries, fresh produce, premium meats and seafood, delicious ready-to-eat meals, trendy snacks, and more!” This news comes about one month after MySA visited the new Austin H Mart, which appeared nearly finished.

H Mart first unveiled plans for its second location in Austin back in August 2023. Those project filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) outlined an estimated $4 million grocery store located at 5222 Burnet Road, Suite 600, Austin, TX 78756.

Plans for the project included construction of a 23,125-square-foot grocery store, slated for completion by the end of May. Earlier this spring, crews installed H Mart signage on both the building’s marquee and the store registry at the North Loop Plaza shopping complex. In early May, glass doors and windows were installed near the entrance, inching closer to its long-awaited opening.

“Whether you’re planning your next home-cooked feast, hunting down your favorite childhood treats, or just stopping by for “one thing” and leaving with a full cart, we’re excited to become part of your weekly routine,” the grocer wrote in an Instagram post. “Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to opening day.”

MySA reached out to H Mart for comment on the opening date and time of the new location.

Founded in 1982 in Queens, New York, H Mart is the largest Asian supermarket chain in the United States, specializing in Korean cuisine and pan-Asian grocery products. The family-run business now operates nearly 100 locations across the U.S., Canada, and the UK.
