Over 800 pounds of methamphetamine was discovered in the city of Palmdale while authorities were investigating a possible illegal dumping incident, officials announced Thursday.
Code enforcement officers, who initially responded to a vacant lot, made the “extraordinary discovery,” which prompted a joint investigation with other law enforcement agencies, including the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, LA County District Attorney’s Office and the LA Police Department, according to the city.
The LA County Sheriff’s Department is now leading the criminal investigation.
Investigators said they also located materials and photos that showed different stages of narcotics production.
City officials did not say exactly when and where in Palmdale the drugs were seized.
Code enforcement officers in the city are tasked with identifying and addressing public safety and property violations across Palmdale.
