PHOENIX — After nearly three decades serving the Glendale Police Department, Colby Brandt has risen through the ranks to become Glendale’s newest chief of police.
Glendale City Manager Kevin Phelps, who announced the promotion on Monday, said it reflects Brandt’s experience and deep local roots.
“Colby Brandt embodies this tradition of homegrown leadership,” Phelps said in a Monday announcement. “He not only brings a wealth of experience, but he also understands our community and cares about it deeply.”
What are the qualifications of new Glendale police chief?
Brandt recently spent four months as the department’s interim police chief. Prior to that, he served as assistant chief.
He also has experience across all of the organization’s divisions, according to the announcement.
“We have been fortunate to have been able to promote exceptional leaders into the position of police chief who have served at all ranks within the department and reflect the values that make us special,” Phelps said.
Brandt is filling the shoes of former Glendale Police Chief Chris Briggs, who retired from the department after 32 years of service in January.
What does new Glendale chief of police hope to accomplish?
“I’m honored to lead the exceptional men and women of the Glendale Police Department and serve the community where I was born and raised,” Brandt said in the announcement.
He is a second-generation law enforcement professional with various goals:
- Strengthening traffic safety by enhancing speed enforcement tools.
- Keeping Glendale safe and welcoming.
- Developing and supporting officers.
- Building regional partnerships.
“I’ve had incredible mentors throughout my career who have prepared me to lead us into the future,” Brandt said. “I’m grateful for the continued support of my wife and family, our elected officials, city management and community.”
