Following the initial release two weeks ago, Google is rolling out Android Canary 2507 for Pixel devices.

Android Canary is Google’s new program for testing upcoming OS features. This Canary channel is “specifically designed for developers who want to explore and test the newest Android APIs.

Google warns how Android Canary builds “ may contain bugs or issues that could affect your device’s normal operation.” As such, they “are unsuitable for everyday use.”

Additionally, features introduced in Canary may not always make it into a stable Android release.

This replaces Developer Previews that come before the Android Beta Program, which remains unchanged. It is available for the Pixel 9a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 8a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet.

You install it using the Android Flash Tool, with future releases coming as OTA updates.

ZP11.250627.009 is the second Android Canary release with the July 2025 security patch level. It follows the first update (ZP11.250606.010.A1) on July 10.

We’re not seeing the on-device OTA just yet, but installed it via flash.android.com.

  • The Always-on display settings page is now accompanied by a graphic.
  • Like in Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3, toggle legibility has been improved.

  • Canary 2507 introduces an “Expanded” or forced Dark theme for apps that haven’t added their own (cough, Fitbit). However, the current implementation reverses apps that already have native dark themes. The second image below is the native dark theme, while the third shows the “Expanded” version.
  • Lockscreen shortcuts are now housed in a rounded square. This is happening sporadically.

Old vs. new
