GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (KCTV) – Jacob Misiorowski is pitching like no one else in Major League Baseball this season.
The Grain Valley product is throwing a historic amount of 100+ mile per hour pitches with the Milwaukee Brewers.
He’d already broken the record for fastest pitch by a Major League starter, and this past Friday night, he rewrote the record books once again.
‘The Miz’ shattered his own record, recording a 105.5 mph fastball.
“He’s had to do a lot of work of strength and stability to control his deceleration so that he can accelerate that fast,” his former pitching coach, Bob Zimmerman of Premier Baseball KC, told KCTV5.
It’s not just the 24-year-old’s speed that’s making MLB history.
The righty is also leading the league in strikeouts (146), and owns the best ERA of 1.45.
Not only is he on track to earn a second straight All-Star selection, he’s also the heavy favorite to win the 2026 NL Cy Young Award.
“I don’t know that any of us thought that 102 consistently and touching 105 was a possibility. That’s unheard of,” his high school baseball coach, Brian Driskell said.
There’s been a lot of online chatter about how long Misiorowski will be able to consistently pitch that fast, without suffering serious wear and tear. But his former coaches in the Kansas City area believe he’s doing all the right things to sustain his speed.
“It’s a daily process. He’s got his routine of doing his shoulder care, and keeping his body as healthy as possible,” Zimmerman said.
“He’s a little bit of a unicorn,” added Driskell.
His hometown community is just enjoying watching history unfold – for a very deserving person.
“Crazy to think that just a couple years ago he was wearing a Grain Valley uniform,” said Dom Giangrosso, Grain Valley assistant principal and Misiorowski’s former assistant coach.
“It’s just so much fun just to sit there, and watch a great kid go out there and play a game that he loves to do,” said Driskell.
