This Shady Canyon Golf Club is one of Orange County‘s most exclusive enclaves with captivating rock formations and lush fairways spread across 300 acres in a secluded canyon setting. Its 18-hole Tom Fazio-designed golf course, complemented by a 53,000-square-foot clubhouse, has drawn major league baseball stars like Mark McGwire and Albert Pujols, while actress Susan Egan, the voice of Meg in Disney’s Hercules, lived in the development.
When a hilltop home in the guard-gated community sold in 2023 for $23 million, it marked a record sale for the city of Irvine. Local business owners and philanthropists Chad and Cari Peets subsequently invested close to $10 million into a complete rebuild of the property. Vastly different from its former state, the residence just listed for $38.5 million with Rob Giem, co-founder of Plus Real Estate.

An over 13,000-square-foot Mediterranean Revival mansion anchors the grounds, which provide sweeping hillside and mountain views. Evidence of the Peets’ multi-year renovation is evident a wealth of marble finishes throughout, as well as hand-troweled Venetian plaster, artisan wall coverings, and sumptuous millwork. Altogether, the details “express a distinctly modern European sensibility,” press materials state.

Beyond the foyer, the formal living and dining rooms showcase a massive marble fireplace and a wall of French doors opening onto a covered patio. Near the swimming pool and spa, a pool pavilion anchors a terrace with 180-degree views. Back inside, the stone-finished kitchen is defined by parquet flooring, floating shelves, and breakfast bar seating. It is joined by an adjoining family room and informal dining area.

Six bedrooms and ten bathrooms are dispersed throughout the house. In the primary suite, wood and stone elements create a striking contrast, while a trio of doors open to a private terrace, and the bath comes with a steam shower and freestanding soaking tub. Guest bedrooms are equally considered with modern light fixtures and deluxe walk-in closets with brass handles.
Elsewhere, a games and entertainment room sports a built-in display wall comprising five television screens, plus a wet bar and plenty of space for a ping pong table. A theater room and fully equipped gym are situated nearby. Outside, illuminated trees and trimmed hedges provide a tranquil setting. Membership to Shady Canyon Golf Club is by invitation, requiring sponsorship by a current member.
