TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A new Tallahassee adult day care center is offering two days of free care to Big Bend seniors during the holiday weekend to help ease the burden on family caregivers.
Latoya Roberts, owner of Angels on Earth Adult Daycare Center, said caring for a loved one can be physically and emotionally taxing.
“When you still want to play that role in your loved one’s life and to not have any help, that will cause you to really have a mental breakdown,” Roberts said.
She added that many caregivers don’t realize how important it is to take a break until they are already experiencing burnout. “Everyone gets tired,” she said. But it’s important to have support to avoid stress and mental fatigue.

Care services can also be financially demanding, and many families cannot afford long-term care, which she said can cost $100 or more per day.
Roberts, who has worked in health care management since she was 18, said opening the adult day care center was inspired by caring for her grandmother, who lived with her family until she died.
She has been operating an assisted living program in Tallahassee, and is eager to expand her services by launching the new adult daycare facility, located at 2500 Allen Rd, in Tallahassee.
The free daytime services will be available Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5, allowing caregivers to rest, run errands or take time for themselves while their loved ones receive care.
To sign up for the free program, call (850) 895-3891.
