Dan Evans’ Washington Open campaign has come to an end in the round of 16, after losing to Corentin Moutet in straight sets.
Evans was defeated by Moutet 6-2, 7-6, as the Frenchman booked his place in the quarter-finals in D.C. for the first time.
The Briton, who bowed out of Wimbledon to Novak Djokovic, enjoyed a couple of strong wins in his first two rounds at the tournament, earning victories over Zizou Bergs and 13th seed Alex Michelsen.
Moutet, however, proved too much for Evans today, whose frustrations boiled over in the second set.

Evans has had an up-and-down season on the ATP Tour this year and has featured largely at Challenger level.
In the tour-level events he has competed at, the 35-year-old has struggled to make deep runs, with his best campaign coming at the Eastbourne Open.
He beat second seed Tommy Paul to reach the quarter-finals in Eastbourne, but was then knocked out by Jenson Brooksby.
At Queen’s, Evans delivered another upset, emerging victorious against Francis Tiafoe in the first round, but was then overcome in his next clash with Brandon Nakashima.
