Cowtown, prepare to say “Howdy” to White Castle.
The world’s first hamburger chain — launched in 1921 — plans to build its second Texas location in southwest Fort Worth, according to a new filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Meanwhile, White Castle is getting ready to open its first Texas restaurant near Grandscape Boulevard and Destination Drive in The Colony later this summer.
Company officials plan to spend $2.1 million to build a 2,764-square-foot White Castle restaurant as part of the Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch, a new shopping complex that is part of 600-acre Chisholm Trail Ranch residential-retail development east of Benbrook Lake.
The restaurant will be located at 6013 Retail Way, near the intersection of Chisholm Trail Parkway and McPherson Boulevard. The eatery will have double drive-thru lanes with a canopy and patio seating, according to the filing.
Construction will begin in January and is expected to be completed by April.
Company officials said they searched across the state to find locations for their expansion. They believe the chain’s popularity will propel it to new success in Texas.
“There are lots of people from the Midwest. There are lots of people from the Northeast where they have grown up on slides and have moved to Texas and we want to be able to satisfy their crave here with a brand-new White Castle,” Lisa Ingram, CEO, president and board chair of the Ohio-based chain, told reporters last year when the company announced its Denton County restaurant.
White Castle, which owns 335 restaurants nationwide, has expanded its offerings beyond hamburger sliders. The company recently introduced new sliders, including veggie, crispy chicken slider and breaded fish options.
