It looks like the Trump effect is working when it comes to sanctuary cities. Following major pressure from the Trump administration, sanctuary cities are starting to cave. Louisville, Kentucky, has officially announced they’re dropping their sanctuary policies.
Former U.S. Marshal Robert Almonte says this is likely just the first of many. He said, “I think we’re going to eventually see other cities follow suit. The other factor, I believe, is going to be pressure from the people.”
He went on to point out that many of these left-wing cities that have sanctuary policies rely heavily on federal funding, meaning they’ll have to fall in line with the president’s border policies. But the real question here is, what does this mean for Texas?
While sanctuary cities are illegal here, that doesn’t mean leftist jurisdictions aren’t trying to get as close as they can. Almonte pointed out that, “Overall, the State of Texas under the leadership of Governor Greg Abbott is not a sanctuary state, but yeah, there are some cities in a gray area.”
He went on to say that, “If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s a duck. So they need to be careful, because they’re not going unnoticed by the administration.”
He thinks that increased pressure from both the Trump administration and Governor Abbott could force left-wing jurisdictions like Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas to cooperate more with federal law enforcement when it comes to immigration.
