PURVIS, Miss. (WDAM) – Some folks in Purvis got quite the sight this morning.
Purvis residents spotted a Black bear strolling through the Beaver Lake neighborhood around 11:30 Friday morning.
The bear was seen walking in driveways and front lawns, and even on the nearby golf course. Maybe they were looking for someone to play a round with!
Black bears are native to Mississippi, and the population has grown in recent years. Here is what people should do when they spot a bear, according to the National Park Service
If you go unnoticed by the bear, stay calm and quiet until the bear moves out of the area.
If you ever find yourself in a standoff with a bear, make yourself known by looking as large as possible.
Remember, bears are usually just curious creatures and do not view humans as prey. Most bears will avoid humans if they hear them coming.
