SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio District 8 Councilwoman Ivalis Meza Gonzalez was arrested late Thursday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to a blood draw warrant affidavit obtained by News 4/FOX San Antonio.

The affidavit details Gonzalez’s arrest just after 11 p.m. after officers observed her vehicle drifting across lanes and failing to maintain a single lane of travel while headed northbound on Interstate 10 near Hildebrand Road.

Gonzalez, 43, was alone in the vehicle and told officers she had not been drinking. She said she was coming from downtown and later named the Centre Club as her point of departure. According to the affidavit, officers noted her eyes appeared watery and glossy, and they detected a moderate odor of alcohol on her breath.

During a series of field sobriety tests, Gonzalez allegedly showed multiple indicators of impairment. Officers reported six of six clues present during the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, seven of eight clues on the walk-and-turn test—including taking 22 steps instead of the instructed nine—and two of four clues on the one-leg stand test.

After her arrest, Gonzalez refused to provide a breath or blood sample. Officers then sought a warrant, stating that she was attempting to conceal evidence of intoxication.

As of Thursday morning, Gonzalez remained in custody.

Gonzalez, a former chief of staff to Mayor Ron Nirenberg, was elected to the City Council in 2025.
