CHICO, Calif. – Faster internet is on the way for parts of Chico, with work now underway in the Chapman neighborhood near Chapman Elementary.
The North Valley Fiber Project, two years in the making, began construction in the Park View neighborhood and has now shifted south.
Josh Marquis, Deputy Director of Information Systems for the City of Chico, says the city will own and operate the network infrastructure. Internet service providers will then offer service through it, giving customers a choice.
“The goal is to control that price and give more options to the customer,” Marquis said.
So far, crews have laid down 10,000 linear feet of fiber, with 200,000 more to go. The full project is expected to take 12 to 18 months to complete.
