Former Steeler Thinks Team Is Being Overlooked: ‘Gonna Be Dangerous’

For the first time since 2021, the Pittsburgh Steelers will have continuity at the quarterback position to start the season with Aaron Rodgers returning as their starter. Former Steelers OL Willie Colon thinks that will elevate the team’s ceiling. On Good Morning Football this morning, Colon praised Rodgers’ performance last season and believes he’s going to make them a threat this season.

“The Steelers are going to be sneaky. They gonna be dangerous, man. I don’t think people are giving them enough credit,” Colon said. “Old man Aaron Rodgers, he has a lot up his sleeve.”

Rodgers aside, Colon also believes that WR DK Metcalf is due for a big year in his second season with the Steelers. As a whole, the offense should be improved given that the Steelers traded for Michael Pittman Jr., drafted Germie Bernard and added Rico Dowdle to their backfield.

Coupled with Rodgers’ return, that should make the offense a solid unit. Defensively, while much of the personnel remains the same, Patrick Graham is bringing new ideas that should galvanize a unit that’s underperformed in recent years.

Put it all together, and there’s certainly a path for Colon to be right about this Steelers team. Of course, there’s also plenty that’s working against the Black and Gold.

While Rodgers was solid last year, he’s not getting any younger. Also, the Steelers failed to meaningfully upgrade at inside linebacker, and they play two of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow, twice a season.

If Pittsburgh’s reshuffled offensive line doesn’t play up to its potential, Rodgers won’t have the ability to feed his improved group of weapons and the offense as a whole will falter.

There’s undoubtedly plenty of potential when it comes to this team, but so much of its success hinges on the oldest quarterback in the NFL and the defense playing to its potential.

The good news for the Steelers is that their first-half schedule is much easier than their second-half slate, giving them time to work out whatever kinks they may have. But the difficulty of the second-half schedule means they need to get off to a fast start.

Quarterback continuity with Rodgers can certainly help in that aspect, and the Steelers’ expectations should be to make the playoffs and repeat as AFC North champions. That hasn’t been the consensus opinion on them, but the talent is there. We’ll see if they can prove Colon right.
