One of the most senior officers in the ranks of Western Australia’s police force has been charged with stalking and illegally accessing a computer system.
Assistant Commissioner Gailene Hamilton was stood down from the force last month after allegations of misconduct.
Police confirmed on Friday afternoon she was facing four counts of unlawfully using a computer system and one of stalking, and was due in a Perth court next month.
She was recently appointed to the role of Assistant Police Commissioner but was stood down while police conducted an internal investigation into allegations she had harassed a fellow officer.
Last month the matter was referred to the Corruption and Crime Commission.

In June, WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said the investigations involved allegations of “persistent messages” between Ms Hamilton and another senior officer.
Before becoming assistant commissioner, Ms Hamilton had been an acting superintendent in WA’s Pilbara region.
She remains stood down from the force, and police said they would be making no further comment on the matter.
