Black bears are present across Canada, but both black bears and brown bears, including grizzlies, call its westernmost province home. British Columbia bears are far from rare, even in the suburbs, and a tourist in Tofino witnessed a precious moment between two bear cubs during a boat-based bear-watching tour.
The July 1 video has racked up over 4 million views since @sarahjforde shared it on Instagram, and it’s easy to see why. The bear cubs growled, roared, and lunged at one another as they took part in the most epic play-fight of all time. Meanwhile, Mom couldn’t have cared less!
Make sure to turn your volume up and listen closely to these rambunctious cubs!
Just listen to them! Even if they were only playing, these bear cubs meant business; but then again, so did their mom, who refused to let anything get in the way of her meal. If you look closely, you’ll even see she had a fish dangling from her mouth at the very beginning of the video.
“Momma don’t care,” commented @toyarj37. “She’s eating good.” You can say that again! As long as she heard her cubs arguing and annoying one another, she knew they were happily occupied.

It’s no wonder why so many parents can relate to this chaotic scene! @Klugshelley compared the cubs’ quarrel to “every backseat on a family road trip,” and she’s definitely onto something. @Fordiegram even said, “This looks like a scene from our house!”
Managing feisty siblings can be exhausting for even the most energetic (or most caffeinated) parents, and, as this mama bear learned, it’s sometimes best to let the kids sort things out themselves. They can practice fighting, learn to compromise, and keep each other occupied just long enough to give Mom a break. That sounds like a win-win to me!

Sarah witnessed this adorable moment while taking a guided bear-watching tour on a boat in Tofino, British Columbia. This coastal town on Vancouver Island is a popular spot to view bears, though spotting bear cubs playing together is truly a once-in-a-lifetime sight.
A special area of British Columbia, called the Great Bear Rainforest, is a world-renowned place to view bears, wolves, waterfalls, glaciers, and so many of Mother Nature’s most beautiful sights. This 15.8 million-acre protected area is roughly the size of Ireland, and it’s home to black bears, grizzly bears, and the rare Kermode bear, or ‘Spirit Bear.’

Bears can even make surprise appearances in BC suburbs, but many of the sweetest bear moments, like cubs breaking out into a growly play fight, happen deeper in the wilderness. Please always be cautious and aware when in bear country, because you truly never know what you may see!
