California Sen. Alex Padilla planned to announce legislation Friday that he said will expand pathways to lawful permanent residents for millions of long-term United States residents.

Padilla was expected to join a coalition of immigrant rights groups to speak about his plan an 11:15 a.m. news conference in Los Angeles. Alejandro Barranco, one of three Marine brothers whose father was detained by federal agents during a landscaping job in Santa Ana, also was expected to attend the news conference.

Details about the legislation were not immediately available.

Live coverage of the news conference will be provided above.
