According to Corriere dello Sport, Raheem Sterling is being considered as an alternative to Dan Ndoye, with Napoli already active in the Premier League market this summer, signing Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer after seeing Scott McTominay thrive in Serie A.

Sterling, who turns 31 in December, endured a difficult loan spell at Arsenal last season, starting only 13 matches in all competitions, registering one goal and five assists in 1,143 minutes.

Despite occasional bright moments, including two assists in the Champions League knockout stages against PSV Eindhoven, his overall impact was viewed as disappointing by those inside the Emirates.

The England international’s loan agreement never included an option to buy, although there had been speculation last summer that Arsenal might pursue a permanent move if the arrangement proved successful. It did not, by any metric.

Chelsea, keen to reduce their wage bill, were open to negotiation, but Sterling’s struggles quickly ended any prospect of extending his stay.

Sterling still has two years remaining on his Chelsea contract, signed following his £56 million move from Manchester City in 2022.

Napoli’s interest could now provide both the player and his parent club with a potential way out after a disappointing London chapter in a glittering career that has seem him win four league titles, five League Cups and an FA Cup.
