Drivers who do not move their cars for street cleaning will soon see a large sticker on their vehicle.
The City Council this month passed a bill restoring the Department of Sanitation’s ability to use stickers as part of enforcement for alternate side parking violations. The practice was banned in 2012 following complaints that the stickers were too difficult to remove.
Sanitation Commissioner Gregory Anderson joined NY1 anchor Shannan Ferry on “News All Day” to explain why he believes now is the right time to bring the stickers back.
“Every week, 500,000 cars fail to move for alternate side parking,” Anderson said. “That means 3,000 miles of streets that we can’t clean.”
Anderson says the new stickers will be easier to remove.
“Our goal is not to wreck anyone’s car or ruin their day,” he added. “It’s really to show New Yorkers the reason that we can’t clean the street.”
