LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville Kroger is among roughly 60 stores around the country that will close in the next year and a half.
A Kroger spokesman confirmed the news to WDRB on Monday.
“Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close South Third Street store. While we are leaving this location, we will offer each impacted associate the opportunity to transfer to a new location. This closure is part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business.”
The Kroger on South Third Street serves the Wilder Park neighborhood.
The grocery store chain announced the planned closings in its first quarter earnings report on June 20. The company said it expected to see a modest financial benefit as a result of the closures.
WDRB did ask the Kroger spokesperson in Louisville about any additional closures in our area. Our inquiry was answered with “we do not have details to share at this time.”
The company has not released a complete list of which stores are closing nationwide.
Kroger said employees at the affected stores will be offered positions at other locations.
