OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – Toronto Raptors shooting guard Ochai Agbaji is giving back to his hometown one play at a time. The basketball star put on his first youth skills camp today, with the help of some fellow NBA stars, including former Jayhawks teammate Christian Braun, who currently plays for the Denver Nuggets.
“This is something that I’ve always really wanted to do as far as just giving back to the community of Kansas City, but also just especially coming here and them knowing me and kind of being so intimate. It’s really cool,” Agbaji said of his camp.

The camp was filled with 90 kids, including 10 girls. The morning included shooting drills and even a free-throw contest. Agbaji said he remembers what it was like being a young camper in the kids’ shoes, and it’s special for him to host a camp of his own.
“All those coaches and mentors and parents and leaders that you know have gotten me up to this point,” the Raptors player said. “It’s kinda been a loop as far as just giving back to them.”
As far as his former coach, Bill Self, who was recently hospitalized, Agbaji said he hasn’t spoken with Self since the incident, but has stayed in touch since going pro.
“Yeah, I actually saw him a few days ago at the TBT,” Agbaji said. “But I mean, just shocking news with that. He’s in our prayers.”
