Heat Warning extended in Phoenix metro area, storms on the way

  • July 9, 2026

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Today is a First Alert weather day for extreme heat in the Valley. Look for an afternoon high of 114 degrees today, which is 7 degrees above normal and 4 degrees shy of the daily record.

An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for today in the Valley and has now been extended through Friday as well. Afternoon highs will remain extremely hot near 112 degrees, and morning lows will be uncomfortably warm near 90 degrees.

Monsoon storm chances continue today in southeastern Arizona and the White Mountains of eastern Arizona. The Valley, and most of the high country of northern Arizona will stay dry, but changes are on the way.

A ridge of high pressure is set to build, recenter itself and strengthen over the weekend over the Four Corner region. This will help draw deep monsoon moisture into Arizona.

Storms are possible mainly in the higher elevations on Saturday, with Sunday bringing storm chances to the Valley. Storm chances continue in the Valley and across the state throughout next week, although it is tough to pinpoint at this point which days will be more active than others in Phoenix.

Arizona’s Family will keep you updated as we get closer, but for now, our storm chances begin to ramp up late Sunday.
