A New York woman died last week after being struck and run over by the driver of an SUV in the downtown Stop & Shop parking lot.
Stacey J. Rosen, 62, of Atlantic Beach, NY, was walking in the parking lot on Monday, June 29th, around 1:25 p.m., when she was struck by the driver of a Rivian SUV. Rosen had to be removed from underneath the vehicle by first responders and was rushed to Nantucket Cottage Hospital. She was quickly transported by Medflight helicopter to a mainland hospital and “later died from the injuries sustained during the motor vehicle accident,” Nantucket Police stated on Friday.
The operator of the Rivian was identified by police today as Kathleen M. Featherston, 62, of Fairfield, Conn. She is facing charges of motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
In a press release, Nantucket Police attributed the 12-day delay in pressing charges against Featherston after the accident to the process of obtaining evidence from the involved vehicle through the manufacturer.
“At the conclusion of the on-scene investigation, the involved vehicle was towed for further processing,” police stated in the press release. “The process of obtaining the possible evidence from the involved motor vehicle through the manufacturer has been significantly delayed. This caused a delay in filing the additional charges against the involved vehicle’s operator.”
