Beholding someone in especially stylish form, a person wearing a fedora or a tulle-lined frock or a boater hat or something made of seersucker, isn’t all that unusual in Southern California.

We do live in an area that is known for especially creative dressers, those accessory-smart locals who love stepping out with a bit of splash and lots of dash.

Dapper Day, those occasional happenings that pop up at Disneyland Resort twice a year, and other spots like the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and LA Opera, enthusiastically celebrates that fabulous fashionable flair that so many Angelenos possess.

How? By summoning sartorially splendid dressers for a day out somewhere wonderful, be it a theme park, cultural venue, or shop- and restaurant-lined old town.

And on Sunday, July 12, Olvera Street will be Dapper Day’s next lovely location.

Visiting the stalls, eateries, and shops of Olvera Street as you twirl and strut in your vintage finery is free, and no ticket is required; simply stop by wearing something you love and support the businesses found around the storied district.

If you’d like to stop by the Dapper Day Market, which is taking place at the nearby Pico House, you will need to purchase entry: That’s $10, and once you’re inside you’ll find all sorts of throwback treasures, from colorful scarves to snazzy stockings and plenty of tops, bottoms, and hats.

Johnny Ramos will perform at 4:15 p.m. at the Plaza Bandstand, if you’d like to get a little dancing in while there.
