Earlier this week, the city announced a new electric food cart pilot program with the goal of phasing out diesel generators for the city’s more than 20,000 food carts.
Ten food carts in Queens have been selected to test rechargeable electric batteries for six months.
Advocates say they hope it will create safer working conditions for street vendors and quieter streets for New Yorkers.
Carina Kaufman-Gutierrez, the first executive director of the Office of Street Vending Services, joined “The Rush Hour” on Friday to talk about the pilot program and a new outreach initiative.
