The Liberty are back to their winning ways, currently riding a four-game win streak. As the league’s top-scoring team (87.4 points per game), offense is rarely an issue, as shown in their last game, a 98-84 victory over the Indiana Fever.
Six different Liberty players scored in double-digits, led by Jonquel Jones’ 18. Breanna Stewart and Leonie Fiebich added 17 as the Liberty shot a robust 51.6% as a team.
Phoenix is on a small slide, losers of their last two games. Despite a feel-good moment in welcoming back longtime Mercury center Brittney Griner (now with the Atlanta Dream), the Mercury dropped a 90-79 decision to the Dream on Wednesday night.
DeWanna Bonner led the team in scoring off the bench, scoring 18 points, while Alyssa Thomas nearly had a triple-double, with seven points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists.
The Mercury have won the two previous matchups with the Liberty and will face each other again on August 30 in Phoenix.
