A fire tore through a three-story condominium building in northeast Dallas early Friday, displacing about 45 residents and causing portions of the roof and upper floors to collapse, Dallas Fire-Rescue said.
Firefighters responded about 1 a.m. to Cambridge Park Condominiums at 11490 Audelia Rd., according to a news release. Arriving crews found fire coming through the roof and initially entered the building to attack the flames.
Crews later moved outside and began defensive operations as the fire intensified. The roof began collapsing into the third floor, and portions of the third floor collapsed into the second, prompting officials to request additional personnel, according to the release.
About 60 to 70 firefighters responded, the department said. Crews remained at the scene through the morning extinguishing hot spots, and all residents were accounted for by 10:45 a.m.
No residents or first responders were injured.
Most of the estimated 45 residents found other places to stay, according to the release. Thirteen residents, two dogs and three cats were being sheltered at the YMCA at 8920 Stults Rd. with assistance from the American Red Cross and Dallas’ Office of Emergency Management and Crisis Response.
DART buses were initially made available as temporary cooling centers for displaced residents.
The property was returned to management, which was installing security fencing and assessing the damage.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
